Recently we had a chance to sit down with Rich Trivett, the School Director of the Indianapolis Roadmaster facility, who was able to shed a little light on why the area has such a high demand for truckers.
“We’re really fortunate because of the major highways that run right through here,” Rich says, and he definitely isn’t wrong. Indianapolis serves as a crossroads for two of the nation’s most traveled highways, Interstate 70 (traveling east to west) and Interstate 65 (traveling north to south). Because of its relative location to such advantageous transportation routes, Indianapolis has become a production and distribution tycoon and is in constant need of CDL trained drivers. “We’re always in need of flatbed, drop decks, lowboys, and refrigerated [trucks] here.”
Rich also says that “Anyone with a name in transportation has a domicile here. There are terminals for all major trucking companies.” This leaves a lot of room for a competitive commercial marketplace where truckers are constantly in high demand. “It’s a great place to look for a job because the possibilities for hire in the trucking industry are limitless.”
According to Rich, job pages in the Indianapolis newspapers are dominated by two very specific career fields: nursing and truck driving. “The one thing I always tell the students in orientation is that their job is more secure than mine, that every time I look in the newspaper, I see no director jobs available, but I see all kinds of truck driving positions.”
The only thing separating the citizens of Indianapolis from an incredibly reliable and lucrative career is an accelerated training course and CDL from Roadmaster Drivers Schools. “Once they get their CDL, the world opens up to them,” Rich says of his students.
